Shelby

My name is Shelby Thiel and I was born in West Covina, CA on October 20, 1990. As you can tell from the image above, I LOVE pigs - and I just made the cheerleading squad! Pigs are my favorite - I don't like to eat bacon when I think of how cute the little piggies are!

I tried to teach my mom some dance moves - like Britney Spears - but she doesn't get it - so I made her promise never to use those moves out in public with me!

My mom is totally going to embarrass me by telling you some stories about me - some mishaps in my life that happen to be comical! Lets start with my favorite - the time I ate the bug.

The Bug (as my mom tells it)

Shelby wasn't even walking yet.... She was about 8 months old and her crawling capabilities were outrageous! I could turn around for 10 seconds and she would have scrambled across the room! We had just bought a home - and were in the middle of the final walk-thru when I noticed that Shelby was crawling around in the kitchen - but something was not right. She sat up on the floor and looked at me with this quizzical look as if to say, "Mommy - what is this in my mouth?" That's when I saw it.... DARK, BROWN WINGS - coming out of her mouth! Shelby was eating a wasp! I leaped across the room like I was Superwoman herself in an effort to spare my child from the horrible misery she would for sure endure eating a WASP!  I grabbed her from the ground and put my finger in her mouth in a sweeping fashion so that I could get the wasp out - and that's when I saw it - it wasn't a WASP - it was a JUNE BUG! What a relief for me!

Every year when the June Bugs appear again - I am always reminded of this particular moment!

The Robbery

Its amazing to me that people "invade" the homes of others - and take things - things that don't belong to them. This happened to Shelby. Someone came into her room at her dad's house and stole her piggy bank! It was filled with coins... VERY heavy! It was shortly after this robbery that I was talking with Shelby about it. She was no more than 4 years old at the time - she got VERY serious - I became concerned that this event was going to leave some sort of permanent scar on her - Its hard to "guess" at how certain events will affect a child. She looked me right in the eyes and said, "Those bastards stole my piggy bank!"

I couldn't believe what I had just heard my 4 year old say!
What would YOU have done???
